Interview with Orygidalbeatz

orygidalbeatzOrygidalbeatz was picked as Producer of the Month for December 2008, below is an interview I done with him.

OPENING

Tell us a bit about yourself, your name, age, where you’re from, and anything else?
My name is Darryl, Im basically a hardworking father of two, Originally from Wilmington, Delaware, but have been residing in Reading(Red dot City), Pennsylvania for a long while now.

MUSIC

Where did you get the name Orygidalbeatz? what does it mean to you?
Way back in like 98′, They was callin me “D-beatz”. So one nite of a music session, one of my good friends (in the midst of intoxication lol) Blurted out, “He always got Original beats, they oughta call you Origidal-beats, 1: cuz your beats is always original & 2: cuz your name is Darryl.” I laughed at him at first, but I took that name from then on, changing up some letters here & there.

What genre(s) of music do you produce? What’s your favorite?
I try to produce all genres, except maybe Country, but who knows, maybe I’ll have a crack at that someday lol. My favorite is The underground hip hop tho. Really anything hip hop, as long as i can put the Dreamtrakz spin on it.

How long have you been producing?
I would say since 95′, mixed with a lil breaking, rapping & DJ’ing

What first got you interested?
I’ve always been affiliated with music some way or another, but just everything that comes with music is a turn-on for me. So of course I wanna try it all.

What’s your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from life situations, day to day. My children are my biggest fans lol. They even do vocal tags for me.

Do you Sample, Compose or Both? What do you prefer?
I do both, & I actually don’t have a preference, cuz I love to do both.

Do you use software or Hardware to produce? Which Software/Hardware? Which do you prefer?
Again, I use both when I make tracks. For software, i use FL Studio, primarily, but I also work with Acid & reason as well. For hardware I have: an AKAI mpc5000, a KorgM388 workstation, my tables, aTascam FW-1082 (48 track), an M-Audio NRV10 analog mixer. Oh yeah, & of course, my computer..

When did you decide you wanted to take your music seriously?
I’ve always thought I took it seriously, even when it didn’t sound rite to others.

What are you trying to do with your music?
I just wanna be heard, for others to feel my vibe.

Do you want to help your community?
I kinda do in a way. I always have sessions with the younger kids, to try to keep em off the streets, there is alot of talent to be heard.

Are you trying to get rich?
Nah, I love doin this, like my number 1 hobby. But if the rite people hit me up, who knows. But it would be on my terms only. I will never change up my styles for the industries.

What is your goal for your music?
Just for people to hear it & enjoy it & talk about it.

Do you have any kind of management, publishing or distribution teamwork behind you? If so what are their responsibilities?
No, not at the moment. Just me pushing cd’s of mixtapes & beats.

What are some accomplishments that you have achieved, and are most proud of?
Well, my most treasured accomplishment would be, that I have the equipment to create anything I want, without a middleman. That took me years lol.

Have you ever made any contact with big time people in the industry and do you keep in contact with them?
So far, i havn’t, but on a daily basis, i have homeboys who talk that talk, you know, “I gotta boy who’s boys boy is cool with somebody”, lol.I do post up on the beat sites tho.

CRAZYPELLAS / INTERNET

Can you tell us how you found CrazyPellas?
Lookin for a site that specializes in remixes, primarily. Boy, I got that, plus a whole lot more lol.

Has this forum helped you at all in your musical journey?
Absolutely, gave me the chance to hear alot of talented people, & to get honest feedback in return.

What made you post your music online?
Its alot faster to go online & push your music than to walk down the street.

Do you feel like the internet is helping you as an underground producer?
Definitely, I’ve gotten alot of feedback & offers from people who I would’ve never got the chance to meet in person, & done quite a few collabos with MC’s online also.

IN CLOSING

Do you have any upcoming projects, events or anything?
Just working on DrEaMtRaKz tha Mixtape vol.5, but you guys been listening to some of the remixes already. I don’t post any of my collabos, cuz on this site,it seems that the artist you are remixing has to be a known artist, or you don’t get much feedback.

10 years from now where do you want to be?
I’m in a pretty good position rite now. 10 years, if I’m still doin the same thing, I wouldn’t be mad. (Hittin tha Powerball would be great tho lol)

Any shoutouts you want to give out?
Yeah, peace to “Golden Creationz” for spinning my stuff at tha clubs on a daily. Reading, PA., & Wilmington, Delaware for keeping my sound on the streets. S. Harvey, DJ FaboNick, DJ Styly, Chizop, Funkyone, & YoungEf  for always giving me honest feed. & to you, CP, for this great site.

Any final things you want to say?
Just keep checking out my threads & leaving feedback, & I’ll do the same. The best is yet to come lol.

Finally, thanks for taking the time to do this interview!
Thx CP
