I started making beats under the name insane beats, but was aware of ansane on soundclick so I switched to psycho about 2 years ago to save customer confusion.

I make rap & hip hop beats but in some cases pop & r’n'b beats, prefer making dark or underground style beats but I am tending to make more east coast beats lately

How long have you been producing? What first got you interested?
been producing since 2005, started making beats because I wanted some to rhyme on at first, and partly due to a lack of decent free beats on soundclick at the time.

What’s your inspiration?
I’m inspired by a lot, but my main inspiration is passion for making music.

I sample and compose, don’t really have a preference.

If I could make enough money to live from selling beats, anything else is a bonus, I’m really only making them because I enjoy doing it.

I guess my biggest achievement was hearing back from a beat buyer claiming to have had a radio interview with the guess host fredwreck who said he liked my beat, but without hearing a copy of the interview its hard say whether it really is an achievement lol.

Have you ever made any contact with big time people in the industry and do you keep in contact with them?
well I joined a website where you pay A&R’s to listen, critique and try to shop your beats but apart from a few good comments never made any success from it.

My name is Vaughn Coldewey and I come from Fort Worth, Texas.

MUSIC

Where did you get the name beneboi? What does it mean?
I made it up. It used to be Le Benebois, which was just supposed to be some fake french word, but I would always be called “Bean Boy” at shows so the name just kind of stuck.

What genre(s) of music do you produce? What’s your favorite?
Thats a really tough question, I suppose these days I produce primarily hiphop.  My favorite genre of music is probably 60’s Tejano or Columbian music.

How long have you been producing? What first got you interested?
I started making and recording music when I was 15 years old (1998).   My cousin gave me a copy of Cool Edit Pro and Sonic Foundry Acid and that was pretty much it, I was immediately hooked.  I started out trying to recreate music by some of my heroes: Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Plaid and focused primarily on techno/IDM music.  In 2002, I started becoming interested in hiphop and I guess I haven’t really looked back since.

What’s your inspiration?
Haha, I’m not sure.  To be honest, probably Marijuana.  I don’t think I have ever worked on anything or felt inspired to work on anything without being high.  Jah bless, rofl.

Do you Sample, Compose or Both? What do you prefer?
I think this is a misleading question, because I compose with samples, and I would never see sampling and using electronic instrumentation as mutually exclusive.  When I sample something, I chop it up, pitch it, assign it to a keyboard and play a new melody with it.  Even when I record live instruments I treat them as samples.  I suppose these days I have been a bit more focused on using synths than sampling records, but if you were to listen to any of my songs you would see examples of both.

Do you use software or Hardware to produce? Which Software/Hardware? Which do you prefer?
Most of my drum beats are tapped out on my 505 and then compressed and mixed into Adobe Audition for multi-tracking and vst’s. I use Propellerheads Reason/Recycle for synths and exporting midi files to control audition.  I run everything through hardware compression (dbx) and most of my samples come from records I get at second hand shops.  I record live instrumentation for alot of songs (bass, trumpet, guitar, drums occasionally.)

When did you decide you wanted to take your music seriously?
I don’t take music seriously.  I have a small studio and I get fairly regular work, but I don’t depend on it to survive or anything.  I will quit doing this the moment it stops being fun.

What are you trying to do with your music? Do you want to help your community? Are you trying to get rich? What is your goal for your music?
I’m not really trying to do anything or make any kind of statement with my music.  I’m not trying to get rich or help out my community.  I just like to smoke weed and sit down and make something that sounds cool.  I suppose after doing this for so long I should have some kind of philosophy behind it, but that’s all there really is to it.  Just making stuff I think sounds cool and smoking drugs.

Do you have any kind of management, publishing or distribution teamwork behind you? If so what are their responsibilities?
I run a small netlabel called Headfoam.

What are some accomplishments that you have achieved, and are most proud of?
Winning the Crazypellas beat contest. Haha, no, I’m not sure, I have won lots of laptop battles, and online remix competitions and that sort of thing.  I suppose the accomplishment that makes me the most proud was working with Pimp C before he passed away.

Yes.

No?  I have only been here a few weeks to participate in the contest, but all the other threads I have started have been largely ignored and I have run into some pretty arrogant people that make me not really want to return (real talk, sorry CP)

What made you post your music online?
Being a narcissistic self-absorbed asshole?  Lol, I’m not sure, why do any of us post our music online?  To stroke our egos?

Do you feel like the internet is helping you as an underground producer?
No, if anything I feel the internet has almost doomed most underground producers, because no matter how good you are there are 3000 people just as good waiting in line right behind you.  It has made available large libraries of samples so that people dont have to crate dig anymore, or even make their own shit.  Someone can just download a bunch of loops and throw them together and call it a day.  I think the internet has destroyed the creativity in a large number of people trying to produce music today.  Why does almost every “underground producer” (i.e. kid messing around with some computer software) have to directly copy some other famous producer?  When I listen to peoples beats, most of the time it sounds like the same person is making all of them (Check out the homemade beat subforum and you can see what I mean.)  I feel like the internet has cultivated a society of guys trying to bite off of eachother and then in the same breath diss eachothers work.  It’s maddening and I only see it getting worse.

I am finally finishing the debut Beneboi full length as well as producing the new J-roc and Plus Ultra albums.  I am also trying to get a netlabel off the ground, and I am looking to sign a few more artists if you guys wanna get some demos to me.

My name is Korey, aka the Hit Star. I’m from Texas, kind of all around texas though.
I was formally known as iLegend or Legend Productions.

MUSIC

Where did you get the name Hit Star? What does it mean? You’ve changed your name from iLegend7 to just iLegend, is this the name you’re sticking with?
Hit Star was a recent change, a new era with my music. Just kind of thought it was a name that represents the music I bring to the table, and will be shown in future projects. I was iLEGEND7 at one point becuz on sites iLegend is usually already taken lol, then shortened it, then I’m now with my new name which will be there forever.

What genre(s) of music do you produce? What’s your favorite?
I produce mainly Hip Hop, Rap, R&B, Pop. Lately I’ve been getting really into some new sytle tracks, mixing techno with those other 4 genres and have made some really great tracks. But my favorite is hands down plain hip hop. Even when I say PLAIN hip hop, theres no such thing. It has so many varieties and the main stream style of hip hop changes all the time.

How long have you been producing? What first got you interested?
I’ve been producing almost 2 yrs now. Alot of my friends are DJ’s, and also rappers, and singers, so just kinda started from there. Even when I just listened to songs on the radio, I didn’t care as much about the lyrics as I did the music behind it. I’ve always judged songs on how hot their instrumentals sounded.

What’s your inspiration?
Producer’s in general. Not just famous ones. Even when i hear a track from some random person, and it’s one of those tracks that you will remember hearing, that’s the kind of stuff that inspires me. Lol Just the music itself I guess.

Do you Sample, Compose or Both? What do you prefer?
I don’t sample much because I dont really like to. I compose because I like to be able to change where I’m going with a beat at any time. If i sample, I have guides to stick to based around the sample.

I own my main keyboard Niko Timbaland Edition, and then 2 small midi’s (akai MPK49, and M audio key rig49). I started small and built up. As for software I started out with FL, but when I purchased my Niko moved up to Cubase. FL doesn’t allow me to use the niko sounds etc. But as of late my dongle broke and been making my beats with FL and vst’s.

When did you decide you wanted to take your music seriously?
When I was in the studio, seeing the way artists and mainstream producers enjoy what they do. Have a good time just doing what you have a passion for, and seeing how everything is used and how nice it would be to have a real studio myself.

What are you trying to do with your music? Do you want to help your community? Are you trying to get rich? What is your goal for your music?
I’m not really trying to help my community in any way, nor get rich. I’m just doing something I enjoy doing. Make money yea, but that’s not the main reason.

I have been producing for 3 years. I was first interested in producing when I got Garageband when I was 12.

I am inspired by anything/everything. Anything that triggers an emotion in me inspires me to make a beat that shows that feeling.

I do both. Sampling can make really good tracks but there is definitely a sense of achievement when you compose a dope beat without the help of samples.

I use software mostly but i can use both. both have thier ups and downs but software you have to do so much tweaking with the sounds kinda irritating.

When did you decide you wanted to take your music seriously?
probably in january 2009 when people where started to like my stuff.

What are you trying to do with your music? Do you want to help your community? Are you trying to get rich? What is your goal for your music?
my goal is to work with good artists and make dope shit that will make people gooo ohhh nnooo he didnt lol. I wouldnt even care about getting rich if i could put food on the table and shelter over my head id be estatic with that.

Do you have any kind of management, publishing or distribution teamwork behind you? If so what are their responsibilities?
none yet but i just found a manager so where talking still.

What are some accomplishments that you have achieved, and are most proud of?
probably getting my stuff played in a club that made my day ooo and getting a shout out from m phazes lol.

Have you ever made any contact with big time people in the industry and do you keep in contact with them?
ive met tons but i never gave them my stuff lol im kinda kicking myself atm.

Tell us a bit about yourself, your name, age, where you’re from, and anything else?
My name is Bryant Lee . I’m originally from Orlando Florida but now living in New York to get my degree in engineering.

MUSIC

Where did you get the name  Bryant Lee? What does it mean?
Well its my name so it wasn’t that hard to think of lol

What genre(s) of music do you produce? What’s your favorite?
Mostly Hip Hop/ R&B and like to do pop as well. I don’t really have a favorite, just whatever makes people snap their head back when they hear it.

How long have you been producing? What first got you interested?
I’ve been producing for less than a year. Hearing Kanye’s Graduation album and the inspiration that I felt when listening to that album made me want to make the same music. So i got a copy of FL Studio and the rest is history.

What’s your inspiration?
Ummm, haters lol And just having a passion to make good music. I take inspiration from everywhere whether it be TV, Movies, Music. Also seeing other people passionate about what they do inspires me to be that much better.

Do you Sample, Compose or Both? What do you prefer?
I do both but I prefer to compose because its all me, its all original. Don’t get me wrong, sampling can be dope now and then but I like to stick to original tracks.

Do you use software or Hardware to produce? Which Software/Hardware? Which do you prefer?
I am all software, now what I use I’m not gonna disclose but I got some stuff that I know alot of people DONT have. I HATE MPCs though for sure lol but wouldnt mind adding a few keyboards in the future.

When I realized that I have the ability to be the best. I was listening to music being put out in the industry and then listening to my stuff and thought, I could do this easy. No disrespect to the producers in the game but I feel that in a year or two, I am going to be everywhere. I just have to have the right people hear me.

What are you trying to do with your music? Do you want to help your community? Are you trying to get rich? What is your goal for your music?
If I produced for the money, especially coming up, we would of quit by now lol Its all about the music, I have huge goals. I dont want to just be successful, I want to be the BEST, and maybe the greatest of all time. I want Grammy’s. And seeing Orlando doesn’t get a lot respect in the industry, I want to put on for the O.

No management, no publishing, just all me.

Have you ever made any contact with big time people in the industry and do you keep in contact with them?
I’ve been in contact with Ace Hood, DJ Khaled, Bali, Drumma Boy, Wes Fif and Wiz Khalifa which are some of the major names and some other underground cats but as of now nothing has REALLY popped off but hopefully some big things coming my way.

Not trying to be cocky but knowing I was gonna be one of the best to post on here.
